About Us

The vision of the Australian Pastafarian Lobby is to see Pastafarian principles and ethics accepted and influencing the way we are governed, do business and relate to each other as a community. The APL aims to foster a more compassionate, just and moral society by seeking to have the positive public contributions of the Pastafarian faith reflected in the political life of the nation.

‘Pastafarians’ have existed in secrecy for many hundreds of years. After centuries of quiet worship over steaming bowls of bolognese, Pastafarians became mainstream in May 2005 when our God – the ‘Flying Spaghetti Monster’ – was revealed to us by the prophet Bobby Henderson (Pasta Be Upon Him).

With millions, if not hundreds, of devout FSM worshippers in Australia, the Church of the FSM is widely considered a legitimate religion, even by its opponents – mostly fundamentalist Christians, who have accepted that our God has larger balls than theirs. Pastafarianism is a real, legitimate religion, backed by science to the same degree as any other religion. Anything that comes across as humour or satire may or may not be purely coincidental. Please see our ‘Issues‘ page for Australian Pastafarian Lobby positions on issues that affect our daily lives, and our ‘Media Releases‘ for up-to-date position statements. We also encourage you to drink beer and eat pasta with us at the ‘Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster Australia‘ and Vote #1 ‘Party 4 Pastafarians – 0% Tax on Beer‘.

Pastafarianism is a real religion. By design, the only dogma allowed in the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is the rejection of dogma. That is, there are no strict rules and regulations, there are no rote rituals and prayers and other nonsense. Every member has a say in what this church is and what it becomes. To outsiders it makes us hard to define, but here are some general things that can be said about our beliefs: We believe pirates, the original Pastafarians, were peaceful explorers and it was due to Christian misinformation that they have an image of outcast criminals today We are fond of beer Every Friday is a Religious Holiday We do not take ourselves too seriously We embrace contradictions (though in that we are hardly unique).
